Are you really worried about Twitter running out of money? I worry more that the novelty will wear off long before it runs out of cash. It's a great tool for so many things, but I'm worried that it has been so over hyped that it will fall under the weight of our collective expectations.

The non-techie barrier is that you have to be online for a large part of the day for Twitter to be an effective tool, especially has you increase the number of followers you have.

Chuck, actual techies like me don't understand it either, although perhaps for different reasons than the non-techie audience you describe. Twitter seems to be embraced by tech-savvy marketers, writers, and entrepreneurs more than by actual technical staff like developers and network engineers. The 140 character limit, lack of threaded discussions, and inability to support valid URLs without bit.ly are the sort of things we'd generally consider bugs (and ones that most other systems as of 2009 have solved). Not to mention that they still aren't very reliable.
